March is Alberta's Fraud Prevention Month!
Fraud Prevention Month is led by the Alberta Crime Prevention Association (ACCPA), a nonprofit, community-based organization dedicated to enhancing education and building awareness of the importance of crime prevention.
During Fraud Prevention Month, ACCPA works in collaboration with police agencies, the financial industry, and numerous community partners to coordinate many worthwhile activities associated to fraud prevention.
This year, in an effort to inform people about the importance of protecting themselves from fraudulent scams, ACCPA is excited to organize a campaign to help prevent citizens from being victims of fraud.
During each week in March, key messages associated to senior fraud awareness, homeowner’s fraud safety and charity and business awareness will be disseminated through social and traditional media.
The month will culminate with an event highlighting the importance of senior safety pertaining to fraudulent scams.
This year, the main focus was decided to show the importance of senior awareness in relation to romance and special friend scams.
The kick-off will provide information and tips for seniors to ensure they do not become a victim of fraudulent acts.
