The Drumheller Volunteer Fire Department and the Alberta Government reminds you it's Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week.
Our fire department encourges you to not only change your smoke detector batteries, but to ensure you have a functioning carbon monoxide dector as well. It's recommended to test the alarm once a month, replace batteries yearly, vacuum alarms often, and replace carbon monoxide detectors once every 7 to 10 years. Carbon monoxide is often called the silent killer and can build up in various ways, usually from a malfunctioning furnace, blocked vent, or a vehicle left running in an attached garage.
Please take time to install and/or test your carbon monoxide detectors as they may save your life.
