In our lifetime there are memorable events that we never forget. The Olympic Flame carried by torch runners in Drumheller will be one of those. This day provides an excellent opportunity for family and friends to demonstrate national and local community pride.
This Olympic’s Torch Run is the longest torch relay in the history of the Olympics. Drumheller and area are most fortunate to have been chosen to celebrate the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron in our community.
Martin McSween was selected to represent Drumheller as the last torch runner who will have the privilege to light the Olympic Cauldron.
Drumheller and District residents have embraced this project and over 25% of us have planned to participate in our Torch Run celebration. Many thanks to the major sponsors who will provide an entertaining program highlighting professional and local entertainers.
It is our hope that everyone who attends this event will have a good time and many enjoyable memories. I extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the people who have unselfishly given of their time and skills to assist the Drumheller Olympic Torch Committee in working with the Vancouver Olympic Committee. Over a hundred volunteers from Drumheller and the surrounding communities have volunteered their help.
