Town Hall Relocation - Great Discussion

Thank you for joining us on February 8th at the Civic Centre when we had the Public Information Session to discuss the potential of relocating Drumheller’s Town Hall to the current location of the Civic Centre, next door to Drumheller’ s central fire hall.

The majority of those that attended the session were impressed with Group 2's presentation which included building maps - that showed how the building would continue to be accessible as meeting space for community groups after regular business hours. (including evenings and weekends) Most attendees thought that the costs to relocate (estimated to be just over $2 million, with $1.5 million already approved as a provincial grant) would be well spent - as it would allow greater access to the citizens as a barrier-free building and fully wheel chair accessible.

Other advantages to relocation include:
- improved parking access
- closer proximity to other town operations (Aquaplex, Arena, Badlands Community Facility, RCMP)
- occupying space that would be left vacant with the opening of the Badlands Community Facility (Library and Parent Link spaces)
- reduced cost of maintaining the current Town Hall ( approx. $100,000 per year)

Disadvantages:
- capital cost of relocation

If you have any suggestions to make regarding relocation - I would encourage you to talk to any member of Town Council to discuss your views on this project.
