Province Confirms March 2017 Ice Jam as a Natural Disaster

The Province has determined that the Ice Jam which occurred on March 18, 2017 qualifies as a natural disaster. As a recognized natural disaster, this may qualify for disaster relief through the Provincial Disaster Relief fund.

They state '...the Lieutenant Governor in Council declares that a disaster exists, in the nature of extraordinary losses and damages and emergency response costs resulting from the ice jam and overland flooding with respect to the 2017-2018 fiscal year.'

While funding related to this event is possible, no specific timelines have been given at this time.

Any residents that were directly affected by March 18, 2017 ice jam event are encouraged to contact the Town of Drumheller for more information.
