Terry is a long time resident of the Drumheller Valley.  His family has entered its 5th generation in the valley with the birth of his granddaughter in 2006.

His grandfather, Jock Pennycook, arrived in Drumheller in the 1920’s to work in the coal mines and was an active supporter of sports in the valley throughout his lifetime.

Terry retired from the Drumheller Institution in 2005 as the coordinator of the Correctional Operations and the initial Narcotics Dog Handler for the institution.

During his career he was awarded a number of commendations including the Distinguished Service Medal from the Government of Canada.

With his black Labrador Cody, they competed and won the gold medal for narcotics detection in the World’s Fire and Police Games.

As a result of the team’s many successes, the federal government has now placed narcotic dog teams in federal institutions across Canada.

Terry has served on the Citizen’s Advisory Committee to the RCMP, the Canadian Chiefs of Police Association and the Drumheller Stampede & Ag Society.

Terry was a founding member of the Drumheller Shooter’s Association, the Drumheller Fish and Game Association and a director of the boards which brought pro rodeo and professional chuckwagon racing to Drumheller.

He currently sits on the Drumheller Chamber of Commerce, Policing Committee, Economic Development Task Force, Red Deer River Municipal Users Group and the Canadian Badlands Ltd.

Terry completed two terms as a Councillor before running for Mayor.  Terry has been Drumheller’s Mayor since October, 2010.   You may reach Mayor Terry Yemen at his Email address
