Guidance on putting up fences

With spring here many people are thinking about  building or replacing their fences.

To help with the process here are the guidelines for putting up a fence or hedge:

In residential areas there are height restrictions and these are as follows:

in a rear or side yard they cannot be higher than 1.8m  (6ft)

for a front yard they can't exceed 1.2m (4ft)

and for corner lot they cannot be higher than 0.91m (3ft)

Fences can be made of wood, brick, stone, concrete, or metal. Barbed wire and electric fences are not permitted in residential areas.

We would also advise anyone looking to put up a fence or hedge to contact Alberta One Call at http://albertaonecall.com/

If you have any other questions feel free to contact our Development Officer at 403 823 1310.
