October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In Canada 25% of newly diagnosed cancer in women is breast cancer. On average 75 women a day are diagnosed, with 15 on average perishing daily. This is no small sum; in 2019 an estimated 26,900 Canadian women were diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,000 will die of it. The number in 2020 is so far 27,400. One in 8 women are expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime and 1 in 33 will die of it. I am one of eight, having being diagnosed on September 24th, I have entered the ranks.

October is breast cancer awareness month, and I beseech you to get checked. I ignored my own tenderness thinking it was nothing, and wish nothing more than a do over. Time is imperative with this disease. Give yourself a fighting chance, if I can do one last public service announcement and help one-five-maybe-twenty people than I have done my job.

Love yourself and put your health before that last chore, event, job etc. Make the time.
