The Turning Point Society of Central Alberta (formerly known as CAANS or the Central Alberta AIDS Network Society) has has been responding to the health needs of communities in the Alberta Health Central Zone using a harm reduction approach.

What is Harm Reduction?

Harm Reduction can be defined as a set of practical strategies with the goal of meeting people where they are at, to help reduce the harms associated with risk taking behaviours.

 

Rural Outreach Workers Provide:

  • Individual and community support
  • Access to safer substance use and
  • safer sex supplies
  • Access to sharps and debris disposal
  • Referrals to medical and social services
  • Education and advocacy

 

We Support People Who:

  • Are living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C
  • Use drugs
  • Are street involved
  • Identify as LGBTQ2S+
  • Are professionals that work with any of the populations listed above
  • Are community members looking to expand knowledge and supports

 

Turning Point staff can provide information and presentations on:

  • Sexually Transmitted & Blood Borne
  • Infections
  • Substance use and related risks
  • Introduction to harm reduction
  • Gender and sexuality
  • Sexual health and related issues
  • Safe sharps and debris disposal options
  • Current drug trends and overdose
  • prevention, including naloxone
  • kit distribution

The winner of People's Choice Awards for Best Residential Lights & Best Commercial Christmas Display are up to YOU - vote for your favourite on the Drumheller Mail website here
