What is a Community Focus Group?

In order to get a full picture of social needs in our community it is important that we hear from a broad spectum of our population, so we're hosting focus groups for specific demographs (see list below). 

Are you:

  • 11-17 years old? Dates tbc
  • 18-30 years old? Join us on September 20th, 6pm-8pm
  • 31-64 years old? Join us on September 26th, 6pm-8pm
  • 65+ years old? Join us on September 21st, 1pm-3pm
  • A Parent of a Child/Children aged 0-12? Date tbc 
  • First Nations/Indigenous Group? Date tbc 
  • New to Drumheller (lived here 5 years or less)? Date tbc
  • A 'new' Canadian (not a Canadian Citizen by birth)? Date tbc
  • In need of a 'General focus group' (e.g. for those that missed an earlier group)? Dates tbc

What will we talk about at a Focus Group? 

During these informal sessions for commmunity members we will think about things like: 

  • Key areas of needs in the community
  • Existing program and services to support community members  (Community Assets)
  • Gaps or difficulties accessing programs/services (Challenges)
  • Suggestions for improving programs/services or overcoming the difficulties identified (Potential Solutions)
  • Ways that can improve our communications with the community (Communication Strategies)
