Position Summary:  The Town of Drumheller seeks an adaptable and energetic team member to lead our efforts in Municipal Development including

the coordination of our safety codes program as we collaborate with local builders, developers and home owners in Drumheller and within the Palliser Municipal Services region.

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the successful candidate will have a well defined understanding of the development permitting process and is able to interpret

and apply the Town of Drumheller’s Land Use Bylaw and all other legislation that informs the necessary steps and stages of the development process.

The Development Officer should have exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as experience managing a dedicated group of volunteers associated with the Municipal

Planning Commission. 

The position serves as the key contact with Palliser Municipal Services regarding the operations of a regional safety codes program(as designated by the Alberta Safety Codes Council)

in addition to serving as the local liaison for the processing of subdivision applications in the Town of Drumheller.    

The position includes the day to day enforcement of compliance with the Land Use Bylaw and permit processing in addition to the review of development applications.

Employment Category: Full Time, Permanent   Hours per Week: 37.5 hours per week– Monday to Friday

Pay Scale: as per CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education and Experience

     • Minimum Grade 12 plus the completion of the Applied Land Use Planning Certificate (ALUP). 

     • A preference will be given to those who have a post-secondary diploma or degree in urban

       planning, civil engineering, or related discipline. 

     • Designation as a safety codes officer in one or more disciplines will be considered an asset. 

     • Other relevant experience will be considered.

The Town of Drumheller is accepting applications for the position of Utilities Manager for our water treatment, water distribution, and wastewater treatment and collection facility

As the Utilities Manager you are responsible for the planning, coordinating and daily supervision of the activities of the Town’s Utilities department including water treatment, water distribution,

wastewater collection and treatment. 

Assist the Infrastructure Director in developing and implementing sound initiatives for short and long-term service delivery, oversee the daily activities of the staff and contracted services, prepare

and manage operating budgets, and undertake small capital projects.     

Position Function

Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Services, this position

     • Leads, plans, directs, coaches and coordinates the operations of the Utilities department and

        the interaction of the department with other Town departments and services. 

     • Oversees and ensures that all tasks and projects performed by employees, specialists and

        contractors, within functional area, are carried out within Occupational Health and Safety

        standards, and that all proper due diligence is carried out.  Also ensures that all contractors

        have proper Workers’ Compensation coverage.

     • Regularly monitors a data information system for water and sanitary sewage control systems

        (SCADA).  Ensuring compliance with Alberta Environment codes, Bylaws, policies and

        procedures.

     • Diagnoses utility system problems and directs the necessary repairs in a timely and cost

        efficient manner, in compliance with all Town, departmental, provincial and federal

        requirements.

     • Assists the Infrastructure Director in the preparation of the corporate annual and long range

        (manpower, equipment, services) plans, operational and capital budgets.  Monitors all activity

        budgets on a regular basis.

     • Supervises, hires, promotes, disciplines, demotes, suspends, releases (as necessary), transfers

        and directs all subordinate staff within approved personnel policies, Collective Agreement and

        legislation.

Training and Experience Requirements:

     • Minimum grade 12 combined with Water Treatment and Distribution Level II Certification and

        Wastewater Collection and Treatment Level II Certification.  Level III certification in any

        category would be an asset.

     • Five to seven (5-7) years of progressive supervisory experience, preferably municipal, in a

        utilities, or waste management operation.

     • Valid Class 3 driver’s license, preference Air Brake endorsement., with the ability to operate

        and maintain department machinery

     • Proven ability to deal directly with staff and public in a courteous and friendly manner

     • Hands-on application and use of computer system and applications

     • Solid planning, organizing and problem-solving skills.  Effective management, team building,

        leadership and supervisory strengths.  Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent

        customer service.

     • Familiarity with Municipal Government Act, sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

        that apply to municipal utilities, and other provincial statutes.

The Town of Drumheller is seeking individuals to fill the Casual After School Child Care Worker position.

Position Summary: Responsible for the day to day supervision of children in the After School Care program. Assists the After School Care Program Coordinator in the administration of the after school program. Open communication with participants, parents and staff. Able to work flexible hours.

Employment Category: Casual

Hours per Week: Casual coverage from 3:00 pm to 6:00 p.m.

Pay Scale: $15.45 - $17.93

Position Summary:  At the foot of the World’s Largest Dinosaur, the Drumheller Aquaplex continues a long-standing tradition of service as one of the Town of Drumheller most treasured community assets.  As we move forward with plans to provide enhanced aquatic services to the public, we seek highly energetic, qualified individuals to serve us as Casual and Seasonal Lifeguards or Instructors. Reporting to the Supervisor of Aquatic Operations and Recreation Programs all staff are responsible for providing a safe, clean, professional and friendly environment to ensure that pool patrons have a positive aquatic experience. Staff paid training in return for a long term commitment to the organization. Further involvement in facility scheduling, programming, pool operations and maintenance are coordinated in collaboration with other town departments.

Employment Category: Casual and Seasonal Lifeguards or Instructors

Hours per Week: Up to 37.5 - 40 hrs/week. Shift work includes morning, days, evenings and weekends – conforming to the Town Policy and CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education and Experience:  Depending on the level of experience, all applicants must have their National Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate &/or Water Safety Instructor or Lifesaving Instructor; Standard First Aid and Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross.  Candidates with excellent communication and positive interpersonal skills; time management and computer skills and knowledge of aquatics programming principles are encouraged to apply.  An effective customer approach and the ability to work in a fast paced environment are essential.

Aquaplex Cashier/Waterslide Attendant

Reports to: Aquaplex Supervisor, Shift Supervisors

Position Summary:

  • Responsible for providing assistance the public at the front counter;
  • Respond to inquiries and answer the telephone at the Aquaplex, and;
  • Responsible for cashiering services. Responsible for supervision to the public in the waterslide area and performs maintenance and janitorial duties throughout the Aquaplex.
  • Provides cashier services for the Aquaplex.
  • Responsible for taking cash and issuing receipts for daily Aquaplex admission, swimming lessons, as well as season passes.
  • Ensures good public relations on behalf of the Town.
  • Greets the public and provides assistance when requested.
  • Responds to in person and telephone inquiries and provides the necessary advice.
  • Ensures participants and general public follow the facility’s safety rules.
  • Provide direction to the public regarding safe use of the facility.
  • Performs maintenance functions as described in the daily, weekly and monthly reports.
  • Familiar with and adheres to the Town of Drumheller’s safety policy and relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

Education & Experience:

  • Fifteen years of age or enrolled in a minimum of Grade 9.
  • Preference given to those entering or enrolled in a post secondary institution recognized by the Federal Summer Employment Grant Program or Provincial Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP)

Must meet the following:

  • Bondable
  • Performs all duties with a minimum of supervision and works effectively with variable work loads and produces timely and accurate documentation.
