To meet the increasing demands of the community’s consistent growth, as well as providing their residents and visitors the very best of services, the organization is looking to attract a strategically focused senior executive as Director, Infrastructure Services.

As Director you will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and provide support to Town Council.  A key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will assume full responsibility for strategic direction and leadership for planning, development and coordination of delivery of infrastructure services for the department and the municipality. Specifics include; engineering, GIS and project management, radio communications systems, water and sewer, solid waste and recycling, roadways, flood mitigation as well as open space and buildings.  You will lead the formulation of operations and planning strategies for the town ensuring compliance with corporate policy, relevant statues, bylaws and resolutions.  You will attend Council meetings and ensure departmental reports presented to Council meet the objectives of the organization and contain clear, concise and accurate information for Council to make sound business decisions. In addition, you will be accountable for customer service policies and procedures that guarantee best of service practices to a wide variety of Town clients both internal and external.

Ideally you are a PEng or a CET with 8 to 10 years in a senior leadership role experienced in water, sewer, roads and infrastructure design construction, operations and maintenance within a municipal or consulting firm setting. You are a big picture leader, practical problem solver, deal effectively with competing priorities and are highly respected for your ability to work well under pressure. You are an experienced strategic leader known for your ability to execute and deliver results. Recognizing the importance of a focused economic growth strategy that ensures the development of sustainable new jobs and enhances our municipal tax base, we are looking to attract an accomplished Manager of Economic Development to create and execute a well-defined economic development initiative.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer you will work closely with Mayor and Council and other leadership team members. As primary contact for business and investment inquiries, you will prepare strategic plans and execute economic development initiatives tied to the Town's strategic economic development strategy. You will develop a variety of promotional and marketing tools and participate in economic development trade events focussed on attracting new business to Drumheller. Additionally, you will identify and secure economic development funding grants from many sources including federal and provincial and other economic development funding organizations or agencies.

You are well credentialled in the world of economic and or community development ideally within the municipal sector or within organizations that have assisted municipalities grow their economic base. Your University focus was economic development and you have taken that learning and put it into practice where it was converted into measurable business gains. You are well known to communicate effectively with groups and individuals, engineers, architects, contractors, developers, business leaders, and the general public. Your public relations skills are impeccable and you are well respected for your ability to build credible strategies that produce positive financial outcomes. The Town of Drumheller is seeking a municipal accountant, in a non-permanent role, to assist Corporate Services in achieving the department’s operational and strategic objectives.  

Located in the heart of the Canadian Badlands, the Town of Drumheller is a worldwide tourism destination community serving 8,000 permanent residents and over 425,000 visitors annually.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, responsibilities in this role will be primarily project driven including the completion of an asset management project that is currently underway.

Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:

  • Reviewing GL accounts and preparing reconciliations
  • Assist with the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets
  • Assist with the preparation of accurate and timely financial information for management and council as required
  • Conduct necessary research and provide recommendations as related to ongoing and future projects
  • Assist in the preparation of year end working papers
  • Other accounting related accounting duties as required

Required Qualifications

  • Related undergrad degree and a CPA designation or nearing completion of
  • Minimum 2 years experience in financial accounting and reporting, preferably in a municipal environment
  • Skilled in account analysis and reconciliation
  • Highly proficient in Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Remuneration

This out of scope position has a salary range of $75,237-$86,520 per annum, based on experience and qualifications

The Town of Drumheller is accepting applications for the position of Utilities Manager for our water treatment, water distribution, and wastewater treatment and collection facility

As the Utilities Manager you are responsible for the planning, coordinating and daily supervision of the activities of the Town’s Utilities department including water treatment, water distribution,

wastewater collection and treatment. 

Assist the Infrastructure Director in developing and implementing sound initiatives for short and long-term service delivery, oversee the daily activities of the staff and contracted services, prepare and manage operating budgets, and undertake small capital projects.     

Position Function

Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Services, this position:

     • Leads, plans, directs, coaches and coordinates the operations of the Utilities department and the interaction of the department with other Town departments and services. 

     • Oversees and ensures that all tasks and projects performed by employees, specialists and contractors, within functional area, are carried out within Occupational Health and Safety

        standards, and that all proper due diligence is carried out.  Also ensures that all contractors have proper Workers’ Compensation coverage.

     • Regularly monitors a data information system for water and sanitary sewage control systems (SCADA).  Ensuring compliance with Alberta Environment codes, Bylaws, policies and

        procedures.

     • Diagnoses utility system problems and directs the necessary repairs in a timely and cost efficient manner, in compliance with all Town, departmental, provincial and federal

        requirements.

     • Assists the Infrastructure Director in the preparation of the corporate annual and long range (manpower, equipment, services) plans, operational and capital budgets.  Monitors all activity

        budgets on a regular basis.

     • Supervises, hires, promotes, disciplines, demotes, suspends, releases (as necessary), transfers and directs all subordinate staff within approved personnel policies, Collective Agreement and

        legislation.

Training and Experience Requirements:

     • Minimum grade 12 combined with Water Treatment and Distribution Level II Certification and Wastewater Collection and Treatment Level II Certification.  Level III certification in any

        category would be an asset.

     • Five to seven (5-7) years of progressive supervisory experience, preferably municipal, in utilities, or waste management operation.

     • Valid Class 3 driver’s license, preference Air Brake endorsement., with the ability to operate and maintain department machinery

     • Proven ability to deal directly with staff and public in a courteous and friendly manner

     • Hands-on application and use of computer system and applications

     • Solid planning, organizing and problem-solving skills.  Effective management, team building, leadership and supervisory strengths.  Commitment to continuous improvement and excellent customer service.

     • Familiarity with Municipal Government Act, sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act that apply to municipal utilities, and other provincial statutes.

Position Summary:  At the foot of the World’s Largest Dinosaur, the Drumheller Aquaplex continues a long-standing tradition of service as one of the Town of Drumheller most treasured community assets.  As we move forward with plans to provide enhanced aquatic services to the public, we seek highly energetic, qualified individuals to serve us as Casual and Seasonal Lifeguards or Instructors. Reporting to the Supervisor of Aquatic Operations and Recreation Programs all staff are responsible for providing a safe, clean, professional and friendly environment to ensure that pool patrons have a positive aquatic experience. Staff paid training in return for a long term commitment to the organization. Further involvement in facility scheduling, programming, pool operations and maintenance are coordinated in collaboration with other town departments.

Employment Category: Casual and Seasonal Lifeguards or Instructors

Hours per Week: Up to 37.5 - 40 hrs/week. Shift work includes morning, days, evenings and weekends – conforming to the Town Policy and CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Pay Scale:  As per current CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education and Experience:  Depending on the level of experience, all applicants must have their National Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate &/or Water Safety Instructor or Lifesaving Instructor; Standard First Aid and Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross.  Candidates with excellent communication and positive interpersonal skills; time management and computer skills and knowledge of aquatics programming principles are encouraged to apply.  An effective customer approach and the ability to work in a fast paced environment are essential.
