Company appointed to demolish Elks building

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

11 February 2019

Dakota Reclamators Ltd from Calgary has been awarded the contract to demolish the old Elks building on Centre Street.

"We are working with Dakota Reclamators to determine the time line for the demolition, however the work needs to be complete by March 29th," outlined Darryl Drohomerski CAO. The demolition is expected to take approximately one month to complete. This is a complicated project as the building was built to the property lines with pavement on three sides, a building on the fourth side and a main power supply and communication cables for a portion of downtown.

Due to the nature of the work and the closeness to the building to power line, power may need to be switched off to properties in the locality for a short period of time. We will work with property owners to keep the impact to a minimum and informed of dates and times for the work. The alleys around the building will be closed to traffic while the work is going on. We will be working with the adjacent properties to ensure access is maintained as much as possible. There will also be a lane closure on Centre Street in front of the building while the building is being demolished.

"We appreciate the building has been an important part of downtown, however we are excited to think about the future plans for a plaza in the area," added Julia Fielding Communications Officer for the Town of Drumheller.
