The Town of Drumheller to buy a new building for Public Works

April 6 2018

Town Council agreed on Tuesday April 3rd to purchase 702 Premier Way; which is currently owned by Trican, for its new Public Works facility.

This is a conditional offer whilst the town does their due diligence. If there are no issues, conditions will be removed on April 30th.

There have been plans for a number of years to replace the current facilities as they are at the end of life and require continual, expensive, repairs. The intent had been to construct a new public works facility by the water treatment plant, the most recent cost estimate for which being $5,000,000. The affordability of this project has caused the building to be delayed in the Capital Budget every year.

"This is a great opportunity for the town," explained Darryl Drohomerski, "This building is a wonderful option for both the staff and for tax payers. The staff will now have facilities which meet their needs and the cost for the tax payer is much lower than building a new facility."

"Council approved the purchase of 702 Premier Way for the sum of $1,730,000 on Tuesday with a possession date of July 6 2018 provided that all conditions are met." Drohomerski added.
