Valley Growers/Valley Learning Garden

The 'Valley Growers' are a group of enthusiastic community members looking to cultivate a welcoming space where people can come along and learn how to grow healthy, fresh produce.

Our vision is that the 'Valley Learning Garden' will be a community hub that provides hands-on learning opportunities, which improve the health and well being of participants. The garden welcomes participants with lots of gardening experience, those with none and everyone in between!

Phase One

With the generous support of the Community Fund for Canada's 150th, the Town of Drumheller and Drumheller Valley FCSS, we are pleased to embark on Phase One of the project which will include 5 raised garden beds located at 724-4th Street S.W. in Drumheller (in Bankview on the corner of 4th Street and 8th Avenue SW across from the playground).

"These beds will be planted and tended by local community groups for the summer of 2017 with the harvest benefitting the local food bank" explained April Harrison, a member of the group. The Valley Learning Garden will be a space seeks to go beyond a traditional community garden and bring individuals together to achieve a common goal. In the future, the Valley Growers aim to expand the garden to include beds for community groups and individuals.

Our goals for this project include:

  • Education for all ages and gardening abilities.
  • Connecting diverse community groups.
  • Encouraging intergenerational interaction.
  • Supporting Eco-friendly gardening.
  • Empowering the community to grow its own healthy food.
  • Supplying fresh produce for the local food bank and Good Food Box programs

"We have visited with neighbours around the site and there is a growing excitement as we prepare for our 'planting day' which will start at 9am on 7th July 2017" explained Valley Grower, Rose Poulson. "We know it's a little late in the season but we've had some veggies growing at home ready to plant on the 'dig' day'" she added.
